Minister of Religious Affairs States Indonesia's Religious Harmony Index Has Reached Highest Level Since Independence

The Indonesian Minister of Religious Affairs, Nasaruddin Umar, has announced that the religious harmony index in Indonesia is on the rise. Minister Nasaruddin stated that this increase represents the highest level recorded since Indonesia gained independence.

These remarks were made during a speech at the National Dhikr and Prayer event held in the Monas area, Central Jakarta, on Saturday (1/8/2026) evening. Nasaruddin noted that this rise is the result of continuous efforts to maintain social cohesion.

“Our efforts to nurture harmony have yielded proud results. The religious harmony index has increased from 76.47 in 2024 to 77.89 in 2025. This is the highest since this nation was founded,” Nasaruddin stated.

According to Nasaruddin, this increase exceeds the 2025 target set in the Medium-Term Development Plan (RPJM) of 76.45 per cent. He further explained that this upward trend is accompanied by an increase in the level of religious devotion among the populace.

“This achievement has surpassed the 2025 RPJM target of 76.45 per cent and is approaching the end-of-2029 target of 78.25. Furthermore, the religious piety index has also risen to 84.20 in 2025,” he added.

In light of this success, Nasaruddin expressed his gratitude to all religious leaders, whom he credited for their significant contributions. He emphasised that religious harmony and devotion serve as the fundamental capital for national development.

“Specifically, we extend our thanks to all religious leaders who remain consistent in guiding their communities to ensure national harmony is maintained. This is vital because harmony is the fundamental basis of development,” he concluded.
