Minister of Religious Affairs Reveals Reason for President Prabowo's Absence from National Dhikr and Prayer Event at Monas
President Prabowo Subianto did not attend the National Dhikr and Prayer event at the National Monument (Monas), Central Jakarta, this evening. The Minister of Religious Affairs, Nasaruddin Umar, stated that the President originally intended to attend the event.
“Before I continue, allow me to convey warm greetings and respect from the President of the Republic of Indonesia. He truly wished to be present with us tonight,” said Nasaruddin Umar during his speech at the National Dhikr and Prayer event at Monas, Central Jakarta, on Saturday (1/8/2026).
Nasaruddin explained that President Prabowo had to attend to state duties, preventing his attendance at the evening’s programme. He conveyed the President’s greetings to all participants present.
“However, God willing, despite his absence due to very important state duties, he sends his greetings to all of us,” he added.
Observations at the location on Saturday (1/8) at 7:35 PM WIB showed that citizens had filled the entire southern area of Monas, which served as the venue for the national dhikr and prayer. The event was attended by worshippers from various religious backgrounds.
Attendees were seen wearing Muslim attire, for both men and women. Other citizens were observed wearing white clothing, complemented by Balinese ‘udeng’ (traditional headbands) or Hindu-style headbands and yellow sashes. The worshippers participated solemnly in the dhikr and collective prayer, led directly by the Minister of Religious Affairs, Nasaruddin Umar, alongside several religious leaders in attendance.
