Minister of Religious Affairs Nasaruddin Umar Delivers Profound Message at Lunar New Year 2577: Addressing Justice and Poverty Alleviation
Jakarta, VIVA – Indonesia’s Minister of Religious Affairs, Nasaruddin Umar, delivered a profound message during the celebration of Lunar New Year 2577 Kongzili. Going beyond mere greetings, the minister emphasised the importance of social justice in building a pluralistic nation.
The address was made by the minister on behalf of himself personally and the Ministry of Religious Affairs as an institution, as an expression of solidarity and the state’s attention towards the Confucian community and citizens celebrating the occasion.
In his message, Nasaruddin Umar stressed that justice is not merely a concept but the primary foundation for resolving social problems, including poverty. He believes that synergy among citizens is key.
“Justice is the primary foundation of national life. With justice upheld, we can overcome poverty together through fraternity and social concern,” the minister said in a statement quoted by the Ministry of Religious Affairs on Tuesday, 17 February 2026.
According to him, efforts to deliver justice cannot be undertaken individually but require a spirit of fraternity and social concern among citizens. The minister expressed hope that the momentum of Lunar New Year 2577 would strengthen the values of solidarity. He wishes for an atmosphere of greater peace and wisdom to prevail amidst Indonesia’s diverse society.
“I, Nasaruddin Umar, Minister of Religious Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, on behalf of the Ministry of Religious Affairs and personally, extend greetings for Lunar New Year 2577 Kongzili — gong he xin xi, kong he xin xi, wan shi ru yi — to the Confucian community and fellow citizens who are celebrating. May this new year bring peace, health, wisdom, and prosperity for us all,” he said.
The minister closed his statement with great hope for the unity of the Indonesian nation going forward.
“May Lunar New Year 2577 Kongzili strengthen unity and social justice for all of Indonesia. Greetings of virtue,” the minister concluded.
