Jakarta — Indonesia’s Minister of Religious Affairs (Menag) Nasaruddin Umar formally handed over a Presidential Decree from President Prabowo Subianto to the leadership of the National Zakat Board (Baznas) for the 2026-2031 term in Jakarta on Tuesday, 10 March.

The handover of the decree marks the beginning of the tenure of 11 newly appointed Baznas leaders for the next five years. Minister Nasaruddin expressed gratitude for the issuance of the legal framework for this leadership to enable Baznas operations to function optimally.

“The new Baznas leadership should, if possible, triple zakat collection. Currently, Baznas collects approximately 41 trillion rupiah,” said the Minister during remarks in Jakarta on Wednesday.

Minister Nasaruddin emphasised that Baznas officials, as zakat administrators, must remain steadfast in adhering to Islamic law in determining the ashnaf, or categories of zakat recipients.

He stressed that zakat distribution must target the eight prescribed categories, without figurative interpretation. Other social needs can be accommodated through alternative mechanisms such as voluntary charity (sadaqah), endowments (wakaf), war booty (ganimah), found items (luqatah), and other community funds.

Minister Nasaruddin also urged the new Baznas leadership to safeguard the trust and confidence bestowed upon them by President Prabowo Subianto. He emphasised that each appointed official bears significant responsibility to maintain institutional integrity and uphold the nation’s standing in the eyes of the world.

“Let us be good representatives for our nation and country. We all share responsibility for realising the mission championed by President Prabowo Subianto — to elevate the status of small and medium enterprises. Be assured that in future, our nation will prosper and we shall all benefit from this,” said Nasaruddin Umar.

The eleven members appointed by Presidential Decree to Baznas for the 2026-2031 term are: Dikdik Sodik Mudjahid, Zainut Tauhid Saadi, Rizaludin Kurniawan, Saidah Sakwan, Ending Syarifuddin, Idy Muzayyad, Mokhamad Mahdum, Neyla Saida Anwar, Abu Rokhmad, Agus Fatoni, and Mochamad Agus Rofiudin.
