Minister of Religion: 31,629 Private Madrasah Teachers Lack PPPK Status
The Minister of Religion, Nasaruddin Umar, announced that more than 31,600 private madrasah teachers have not been appointed as Government Employees with Work Agreements (PPPK).
He noted that these madrasah teachers in fact achieved scores above the passing grade established in the 2023 PPPK selection process.
“31,269 private madrasah teachers lack PPPK status due to limited position allocations,” Nasaruddin stated during a working session with Commission VIII of the House of Representatives, the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah, and the Ministry of State Apparatus and Bureaucratic Reform on Thursday, 12 March 2026.
In February, the Ministry of Religion proposed that 630,000 private madrasah teachers be appointed as PPPK. The Director General of Islamic Education at the Ministry of Religion, Amien Suyitno, indicated that this proposal is currently being processed with other relevant ministries.
Nasaruddin Umar explained that the proposal to appoint 630,000 private madrasah teachers as PPPK is justified because they possess the required capacity. For example, in the 2023 PPPK selection, their assessment scores exceeded the minimum threshold.
However, due to limited position allocations, these madrasah teachers have been unable to obtain PPPK status. “Other considerations are influenced by various additional factors,” Nasaruddin stated.
The additional factors cited include the high number of madrasah teachers approaching retirement age, territorial expansion, and the transfer of madrasah status under ministry jurisdiction.
Nasaruddin said that another objective of proposing these position allocations is to demonstrate that the state is present and providing affirmation to madrasah teachers in both public and private institutions.
“To provide benefits for the advancement of education in Indonesia,” he added.
