Surabaya (ANTARA) - Minister of Public Works Dody Hanggodo is pushing for the acceleration of the construction of Phase II Sekolah Rakyat in Surabaya City to be completed in line with the target of 20 June 2026 and ready for use in the new academic year.

“The progress in Surabaya is good, around 45 percent, and the quality is also good. Overall, the Sekolah Rakyat construction work carried out by Waskita and its partners is progressing well. In Sampang Regency, it is also nearly 40 percent,” said Minister Dody in Surabaya on Sunday.

He acknowledged that there are indeed locations that are still lagging behind, but overall, the situation remains under control and is being pursued.

As of now, the physical progress of the Phase II Sekolah Rakyat construction in Surabaya has reached approximately 45 percent, with the quality of work assessed as good.

Minister Dody emphasised that the construction of Sekolah Rakyat is part of the government’s priority programme to improve human resource quality through the provision of decent and integrated education.

“This is the President’s priority programme to eradicate extreme poverty through decent education, especially for children from underprivileged families. The way to do it is by schooling their children in proper and good schools, with boarding facilities, uniforms, and nutritious food,” he added.

The Phase II Sekolah Rakyat in Surabaya City is located in Kedung Cowek Ward, Bulak Subdistrict, and is being built on a plot of land spanning approximately 6.6 hectares with right-of-use status by the Surabaya City Government.

The facilities being constructed include classrooms for primary school (SD), junior high school (SMP), and senior high school (SMA) levels with a capacity of up to 1,000 students.

In addition, there are student dormitories, teacher apartments, a mosque, a multipurpose building, a canteen, clean water installations, and sports facilities such as a basketball court and mini soccer field.

Minister Dody stressed the importance of maintaining the commitment to completing the work so that the construction acceleration can run optimally and the facilities can be utilised as soon as possible in the new academic year.

On that occasion, he also reminded the importance of strengthening coordination and supervision in the field to ensure that the quality of work remains maintained and there are no delays.

“For those that are still lagging behind, they must be caught up immediately with concrete steps in the field, including adding manpower and strengthening supervision,” said Dody.

The Ministry of Public Works is committed to continuing to oversee the construction of Sekolah Rakyat in various regions so that it can be completed on time and provide optimal benefits to the community.
