Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Minister of Public Works (PU), Dody Hanggodo, assessed that the implementation of the 2026 Eid al-Fitr exodus and return flows generally proceeded smoothly, under control, with improvements in road user safety aspects.

“Overall, this year’s Eid exodus and return implementation ran smoothly and under control. We also observed an increase in terms of safety, which is an important indicator of the success of road infrastructure service provision,” said Dody in his statement in Jakarta on Tuesday.

He conveyed that this achievement was inseparable from the synergy between the Ministry of Public Works, the Toll Road Regulatory Body (BPJT), and Toll Road Business Entities (BUJT), including PT Jasa Marga (Persero) Tbk, supported by the utilisation of real-time traffic monitoring technology through the Jasamarga Tollroad Command Center (JMTC).

“Strengthening the monitoring system through JMTC, including the addition of CCTV at various strategic points, greatly assists in making quick decisions on the ground. This directly contributes to improving safety and traffic flow smoothness,” he said.

Based on Jasa Marga monitoring data, the outbound traffic volume from Jakarta reached 3.25 million vehicles, an increase of 18.4 percent compared to normal conditions and 2.3 percent compared to Eid 2025. Meanwhile, the inbound vehicle volume to Jakarta was recorded at 2.98 million vehicles, up 10.8 percent from normal conditions.

The peak exodus occurred on H-3 (18 March 2026) with 270,315 vehicles, an increase of 4.6 percent compared to the previous year. The peak return flow on H+3 (24 March 2026) recorded 256,338 vehicles, lower than last year and the initial projection.

In terms of traffic performance, the return flow travel time was recorded better at 5 hours 12 minutes, or 3.8 percent faster than in 2025. Meanwhile, for the exodus, the travel time was 5 hours 46 minutes, slightly up 2.6 percent in line with the high vehicle volume.

Improvements were also evident in safety aspects. The number of accidents during the 2026 Eid period was recorded at 51 incidents, down 2 percent from last year. The number of victims also decreased significantly to 60 people, or down 34 percent, including fatalities which dropped to 2 people, a 60 percent reduction.

To support traffic smoothness, the government implemented various strategic policies such as a 30 percent toll fee discount, restrictions on goods transport, and traffic engineering in the form of contraflow and one-way systems implemented situationally. The goods transport restrictions succeeded in reducing logistics vehicle volume by up to 74.56 percent during the restriction period.

In addition, the Ministry of Public Works ensured optimal toll road conditions by addressing all road surface damage before the peak exodus, as well as operating functional toll sections at several strategic points to aid traffic distribution.
