Minister of Public Works: Construction of Cilacap People's School Proceeding Optimally
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Minister of Public Works (PU) Dody Hanggodo stated that the construction of the Cilacap People’s School in Majenang Subdistrict, Cilacap Regency, Central Java, is proceeding optimally.
He highlighted the importance of handling drainage and controlling water flow to maintain stability in the construction area and support the smooth progress of the construction work.
“Ensure that the water flow management techniques are carried out properly. Do not let the drainage in the school area be disrupted and impact the construction work,” Dody said in his statement in Jakarta on Wednesday.
The construction site of the Cilacap People’s School is located in an area with a relatively high groundwater saturation level, especially during the rainy season. Additionally, there is surface runoff from the drainage systems of two nearby breeding centres, namely the fish breeding centre and the agricultural breeding centre.
Head of the Central Java Regional Infrastructure Development Agency (BPBPK) and Coordinator of the Task Force for Accelerating the Construction of People’s Schools in Central Java, Nanda Lasro Elisabet Sirait, said that the water flow had previously affected the construction area.
“However, we have coordinated with the breeding centres and the local government to ensure that the water flow can be diverted to the channel in front of the project site without disrupting the existing irrigation,” Nanda said.
To support the acceleration of the work, the Building and Environmental Health Engineering Agency (BTBGPL) has also recommended the construction of a 100-metre subdrain to assist in releasing water from the soil layer in the construction area.
“The materials for the subdrain work have been ordered and are expected to arrive soon so that installation can be carried out directly on site,” she said.
Meanwhile, Director of Building and Environmental Health Engineering Kuswara explained that drainage handling is being carried out through the construction of temporary channels in the form of excavations parallel to the project area. On the northern side of the site, U-ditch channels will also be installed, directed towards the western side of the project area.
“To accelerate the release of trapped surface water and maintain the smooth progress of construction work, we have also installed active submersible pumps at several points in the project area,” Kuswara said.
The construction of the Cilacap People’s School continues to be accelerated through parallel construction work and technical handling on site. The Ministry of Public Works continues to carry out various acceleration efforts to ensure that the completion of the construction proceeds according to plan.
