Minister of Public Works: 2027 Budget to Deliver Quality Infrastructure
Minister of Public Works Dody Hanggodo has stated that the Ministry of Public Works’ budget for 2027 must be translated into quality infrastructure services for the community. “The Ministry of Public Works’ budget must be realised as services to the community in the form of optimal irrigation, connected roads, safe bridges, affordable drinking water for all citizens, managed sanitation, and public facilities that are fit for use by all people in Indonesia,” Dody said in a statement in Jakarta on Friday. The Ministry of Public Works has proposed a budget requirement of Rp219.81 trillion for the 2027 fiscal year to ensure that basic infrastructure development and services for the community continue to run optimally. Of this requirement, the indicative ceiling set by the government is Rp98.47 trillion. According to Dody, productivity cannot be separated from the availability of properly functioning infrastructure on the ground. Farmers need reliable irrigation networks, businesses require adequate road connectivity, while communities need access to clean water and proper sanitation. “Investment and industry do not grow on plans alone. Both require connectivity, raw water, organised areas, disaster risk control, and reliable basic services,” he said. Dody explained that the indicative ceiling of Rp98.47 trillion will be utilised for various priority infrastructure programmes, including the construction and rehabilitation of irrigation networks, road and bridge maintenance, construction of suspension bridges, expansion of drinking water services, improvement of sanitation and waste management, construction of educational facilities, and post-disaster response. “We fully understand that state budgeting requires prudence. Therefore, we are conveying these needs openly, measurably, and based on the function of public infrastructure services,” he said. Dody detailed that the largest allocation from the indicative ceiling is directed towards the Strategic Infrastructure sector, amounting to Rp31.53 trillion. This will support national priority programmes such as the construction of Sekolah Rakyat (People’s Schools), the rehabilitation and renovation of religious schools, and the partial handling of public infrastructure in post-disaster areas in Sumatra. The Water Resources sector is allocated Rp25.44 trillion for the construction and rehabilitation of irrigation networks, construction of flood control systems, the Community-Based Infrastructure programme or Acceleration of Water Use Management Improvement for Irrigation, and post-disaster infrastructure management. Meanwhile, the Highways sector is allocated Rp29.24 trillion for road capacity construction and improvement, bridge construction and replacement, construction of flyovers and underpasses, suspension bridges, as well as road and bridge preservation. The Human Settlements sector is allocated Rp11.07 trillion for the expansion of Drinking Water Supply Systems, wastewater and solid waste management, development of national strategic areas, and handling of basic service infrastructure in post-disaster areas. The Ministry of Public Works assesses that this Budget Work Plan will be a determining factor in maintaining and expanding the basic infrastructure services needed by the community while supporting the national economic growth target in 2027.
