The Minister of Primary and Secondary Education, Abdul Mu’ti, stated that his office is investigating the death of a second-grade student at SD Negeri 01 Kebondalem, Pemalang Regency, which is allegedly caused by bullying by an older student.

“We will follow up on this; we have requested reports from the Central Java Education Quality Assurance Agency (BPMP) and the local Education Office to provide a complete report,” he said during a visit to SDN 15 Dangin Puri, Denpasar, on Friday.

The Minister noted that such steps are crucial because initial information circulating in the field often does not fully reflect the objective reality of the situation. Consequently, the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education is committed to conducting careful monitoring and avoiding rushed conclusions.

The alleged bullying incident involved a seven-year-old student, identified by the initials MHA, who had complained of abdominal pain and difficulty walking before passing away. The case of violence within the school environment is currently being investigated in depth by local police alongside the Pemalang Regency Government.

Abdul Mu’ti emphasised a strong commitment in accordance with Minister of Primary and Secondary Education Regulation Number 6 of 2026, ensuring that every educational unit can provide a physical, social, digital, and spiritual environment that is safe for children.

“The core point is this: we are committed in accordance with Minister Regulation Number 6 of 2026,” he asserted.

The Ministry, along with all stakeholders, is determined to make schools learning spaces that are truly safe, comfortable, and child-friendly. Furthermore, the aspect of spiritual comfort is also a significant focus within the modern educational ecosystem.

According to the Minister, every instance of violence that arises must be addressed through a thorough investigation to identify the underlying triggers objectively. The resolution must also prioritise humanist approaches and avoid all forms of physical sanctions against students.

The government emphasises the importance of implementing a non-physical punishment approach, considering that the mental state and character of every child differ. The Minister also stressed the importance of involving all layers of society to safeguard the educational ecosystem from the threat of violence.

This cross-sector collaboration serves as a crucial foundation for providing optimal protection for student safety in schools. “Therefore, we require support from all parties to create safe and comfortable schools, and regarding the case in Pemalang, we will follow up accordingly,” concluded Abdul Mu’ti.
