Minister of Primary and Secondary Education Attends Groundbreaking Ceremony for New SPH Pluit Campus
The Pelita Harapan Education Foundation (YPPH) held the groundbreaking ceremony for the new permanent campus of Sekolah Pelita Harapan (SPH) Pluit, North Jakarta, on Tuesday (2/6/2026). Situated on 2.2 hectares of land, the construction of the new SPH Pluit campus is targeted for completion in December 2027, with operations expected to begin in January 2028.
Attending the ceremony, the Indonesian Minister of Primary and Secondary Education, Abdul Mu’ti, highlighted the importance of education as a long-term investment for the nation. He emphasised that education is fundamentally about investing in human resources.
“This is not merely about the physical construction of a school, but more importantly, about shaping the character of our future generations and ensuring our nation is built on a strong foundation,” stated Abdul Mu’ti.
The new campus will serve students from Kindergarten to Grade 12, with a total capacity of approximately 1,200 students. James Riady, Founder and Chairman of the YPPH Board of Trustees, stated that education is one of the most strategic ways to shape Indonesia’s future.
SPH Pluit aims to pursue not only academic excellence but also the development of future leaders possessing wisdom, integrity, compassion, and faith. “True education must shape both the mind and the heart,” he asserted.
“This new campus reflects our long-term commitment to families in North Jakarta and to the future generations of Indonesian and global leaders,” added Aileen Riady, Chairwoman of SPH. “We are building more than just classrooms; we are building a community where students can grow intellectually, creatively, spiritually, and relationally.”
SPH Pluit was established in 2014 and has since grown into one of the leading international schools in North Jakarta. Utilising the Cambridge curriculum with English as the primary medium of instruction, the school has experienced strong and sustainable growth over the past decade.
Currently, SPH Pluit serves approximately 500 students and has reached full capacity, with a growing waiting list each year. Since its inception, the campus—which currently operates within the Lippo Mall Pluit complex—was designed as a temporary location while awaiting the development of a permanent campus.
However, the licensing and approval process for the new site took nearly 12 years to complete. “It is a great blessing after years of planning, prayer, and perseverance; all necessary permits have finally been secured so that construction can begin,” said the President of YPPH, Jonathan Parapak.
“Therefore, this groundbreaking is not just the start of physical construction, but also a testament to faithfulness, patience, and a vision that has been maintained for many years,” he concluded.
