Minister of PPPA: Role of Parents Crucial to Successful Implementation of PP Tunas

Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Minister of Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection (PPPA), Arifah Fauzi, has called on parents, educators, and the public to play an active role in supervising and accompanying children’s use of social media.

“Parents and support systems are expected to be present not only to monitor but also to build open communication, provide understanding of risks in the digital space, and guide children to utilise technology positively in accordance with their age and developmental stage,” said Minister PPPA Arifah Fauzi in Jakarta on Monday.

According to her, the role of parents and the child’s surrounding environment is crucial in successfully implementing Government Regulation Number 17 of 2025 on the Governance of Electronic Systems in Child Protection (PP Tunas).

“The Ministry of PPPA, in synergy with the Ministry of Communication and Digital (Komdigi) and stakeholders, will continue to monitor the implementation of policies restricting social media access for children under 16 years old in accordance with the mandate of PP Tunas,” said Minister Arifah Fauzi.

PP Tunas will take effect from 28 March 2026.

Digital platforms are prohibited from providing or accepting requests to create social media accounts from children under 16 years old.

The PP Tunas policy will be implemented in stages.

For the first phase, eight digital platforms must block accounts belonging to children under 16 years old, namely YouTube, TikTok, Facebook, Instagram, Threads, X (Twitter), Bigo Live, and Roblox.

The Ministry of Communication and Digital itself has issued Minister of Communication and Digital Regulation Number 9 of 2026 as the implementing regulation for PP Tunas.
