Minister of PANRB Opens Photo Exhibition “Modern Kartini: The Footsteps of Kartini”, Featuring Photography Works

Minister for Administrative Reform and Bureaucratic Reform (PANRB), Rini Widyantini, officially opened the Modern Kartini: The Footsteps of Kartini Photo Exhibition in Jakarta on Sunday (19/4/2026). The exhibition serves as a space for reflection and appreciation of the contributions of contemporary Indonesian women who continue to advance, create, and make an impact in various fields. On this occasion, Rini not only attended as the event opener but also as one of the 32 photographers showcasing their works. She exhibited two photographs themed around batik-making activities, reflecting perseverance, cultural values, and the role of women in preserving traditions. With the theme “The Footsteps of Kartini”, the exhibition affirms that the spirit of Raden Ajeng Kartini does not end in the past but lives on in the courage, perseverance, and tangible contributions of Indonesian women today. Rini stated that major changes often begin with small, consistent steps. “Every step we take today is part of a long journey towards change. It does not always have to be big; what is important is the continuity and meaning of each step,” she said in a press release received by Kompas.com on Monday (20/4/2026). She also encouraged female civil servants (ASN) to continue developing their capacities, to boldly take on strategic roles, and to maintain a balance between professionalism and humanistic values in their work. According to her, each photographic work holds a story, a journey, and profound values. “Through this exhibition, we are invited to see how Indonesian women continue to move forward, take on roles, and give meaning to their surroundings,” said Rini. The exhibition also serves as a collaborative platform for photographers and visual arts enthusiasts to present perspectives on women’s roles in the modern era. Rini appreciated the Heritage Photography community and all the organising committee for creating an inspirational and inclusive creative space.
