Minister of National Development Planning: Kepri UMKM Products Have High Market Value
“This could become a new source of income for Kepri through the development of marine-based industries,” Minister of National Development Planning (PPN)/Bappenas Chief Rachmat Pambudy stated during his visit to view flagship UMKM products at the Kepri Regional Craft Council (Dekranasda) building in Tanjungpinang on Thursday.
He praised the products and local culture of Kepri, noting their high market value due to attractive packaging and modern presentation.
The visit was part of Bappenas’ effort to directly observe the development of creative economy, UMKM, and cultural and tourism potential in Kepri.
Various local products were displayed at Dekranasda Kepri, including processed gonggong food, Malay batik, pandan leaf weaving, and crafts made from gonggong shell.
Pambudy also observed the weaving process by local artisans.
During the visit, he highlighted the significant potential for Kepri’s processed seafood products to become national flagship products.
He suggested fish products could support Hajj pilgrims’ needs, including marine-based supplements like sea cucumber oil.
“After visiting Dekranasda, Minister Rachmat Pambudy, accompanied by Kepri Governor Ansar Ahmad and officials, continued the visit to Penyengat Island to explore historical and cultural sites such as ancient mosques, Malay figures’ tombs, and traditional halls.”
“Kepri’s creative economy, including Penyengat Island, is quite promising. If managed well, Kepri could serve as an example,” Pambudy said.
Despite strong historical and cultural assets, he added, the full potential of Penyengat Island has yet to significantly boost the local tourism economy.
However, he commended ongoing efforts to develop the cultural area in recent years.
“Alhamdulillah, there have been many improvements. We just need to find areas for further enhancement to amplify the impact, as storytelling and tourist packages are already in place—now it’s about scaling up marketing,” said the PPN Minister/Bappenas Chief.
