Minister of Law: Naturalisation Fee Hike Unchanged for Nearly a Decade, Won't Affect General Public

Minister of Law Supratman Andi Agtas has moved to allay public concerns regarding the increased fees for renouncing Indonesian citizenship and for naturalisation, emphasising that the tariffs had remained static for nearly a decade. Speaking at the Parliament Complex in Central Jakarta on Tuesday, 21 July 2026, Supratman stated that the general Indonesian populace need not worry about the hike in Non-Tax State Revenue (PNBP). “For those who wish to become Indonesian citizens, they must have resided in Indonesia for five consecutive years or ten non-consecutive years. It is certain that these individuals have financial capability,” he explained. He added that the impact on lower-income communities is virtually non-existent. Supratman also argued that the cost of naturalisation in Indonesia remains cheaper compared to other countries, noting the specific increase from Rp50 million to Rp75 million. The adjustment is stipulated in Government Regulation No. 30 of 2026, which sets the tariff for a foreign national to become an Indonesian citizen at Rp75 million, while naturalisation through marriage is set at Rp25 million. Other fees include Rp2 million for dual-nationality children to become Indonesian citizens and Rp1 million to regain Indonesian citizenship status. The fee for a presidential decree on loss of citizenship upon personal request is set at Rp5 million, while a decree to retain citizenship costs Rp1 million.
