Jakarta – The Government is still refining the scheme for providing Hari Raya holiday allowances (THR) and holiday aid (BHR) to ride-hailing drivers. These discussions follow consultations between the government and several digital transportation application companies.

The issue of providing holiday allowances to platform-based workers has come into focus ahead of this year’s Lebaran celebrations. The government stated it wishes to ensure that the policy adopted can provide broader benefits to drivers.

Labour Minister Yassierli said the government is currently conducting internal discussions before an official decision is announced. “Of course, regarding THR and BHR, the Coordinating Minister and I must first consult with the President,” Yassierli said during a press conference.

The final decision on the policy will likely be discussed during a government meeting with the President early next week. “We might meet him on Monday or Tuesday, and from there we will report everything related to our meetings with the application companies,” he said.

Previously, the government held meetings with digital transportation service providers to align views on the holiday aid scheme for drivers. These discussions were conducted to ensure the adopted policy would be accepted by all parties, both companies and driver partners. “We held meetings with application companies a few days ago, and essentially we are aligned. We continue to synchronise our understanding,” he stated.

Additionally, the government aims to expand the number of beneficiaries of the policy and ensure the scheme is better than in previous years. “We want to ensure that this year’s holiday allowance is improved and that it reaches a broader range of beneficiaries,” Yassierli said.

Meanwhile, the government is also preparing a circular letter regarding the provision of holiday allowances to workers generally ahead of this year’s Hari Raya Idulfitri celebrations. “The details will be reported to you after the meeting with the President,” Yassierli said.
