Minister of Immigration and Corrections and House Commission IV Chair Sample Salted Eggs and Harvest Eels on Nusakambangan

Minister of Immigration and Corrections (Imipas) Agus Andrianto and Chair of House of Representatives Commission IV Siti Hediati Hariyadi, known as Titiek Soeharto, sampled salted eggs and harvested farmed eels produced by inmates on Nusakambangan Island, Cilacap, Central Java. Agus and Titiek first inspected a workshop producing bricks from coal combustion waste, Fly Ash and Bottom Ash (FABA), on Saturday morning. At the site, they also viewed official housing constructed from bricks made by the inmates. Moving on, Agus and Titiek inspected a chicken farm operated by the Open Class IIB Correctional Facility on Nusakambangan. In addition to collecting omega-3 enriched chicken eggs, both also tasted salted eggs produced by the inmates. “Delicious, can be eaten as a snack,” Titiek remarked. Furthermore, Agus and Titiek reviewed an organic fertiliser processing centre made from animal manure, including from cattle, chickens, sheep, and bats. This organic fertiliser is an innovation from the Class I Batu Correctional Facility on Nusakambangan. Also visited was the Nusakambangan Vocational Training Centre (BLK), which is focused as a sewing training hub for inmates of the Class IIB Nirbaya Correctional Facility. At the BLK, inmates train in sewing and produce uniforms for other inmates. The Minister of Immigration and Corrections and the Chair of the commission overseeing agricultural affairs also did not miss visiting the vaname shrimp ponds in Bantar Panjang, Nusakambangan. Agus and Titiek joined inmates from the Class IIA Permisan Correctional Facility in harvesting shrimp and enjoyed processed dishes from the catch. The working visit concluded with an inspection of the eel aquaculture ponds on Thursday afternoon. As at previous locations, Agus and Titiek also watched inmates harvest the fish rich in omega-3 fatty acids. “So, this is also a spur for ministries related to food security to be more diligent so that we can achieve what President Prabowo Subianto and all of us desire,” she said during a press conference. Meanwhile, Minister of Immigration and Corrections Agus Andrianto expressed his commitment to continuously deliver improvements in food security efforts within the Ministry of Immigration and Corrections. “Earlier we requested several evaluations and directives, which we will follow up on, including efforts to improve what we have already accomplished,” he said.
