Minister of Housing to Significantly Boost Self-Help Housing Programme in Six Provinces

Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Minister of Housing and Settlements (PKP), Maruarante Maruarar Sirait (Ara), is prepared to significantly increase the Self-Help Housing Stimulant Assistance (BSPS) programme, also known as the ‘house renovation’ programme, across six provinces.

He stated that the six provinces include Gorontalo, Riau, West Sulawesi, South Papua, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB), and Bengkulu.

“We have noted that these regions still have many needs in the housing sector, particularly regarding the BSPS or house renovation programme. Following evaluations by our staff, we have discussed house renovations in these provinces and will increase them significantly,” Ara said in a statement in Jakarta on Wednesday.

He added that the BSPS programme serves as an example of a scheme that is highly enjoyed and awaited by the community, while being immensely beneficial to the people.

The Self-Help Housing Stimulant Assistance (BSPS) provides government financial support to low-income communities to improve the quality of existing homes or construct new ones through self-help and the principle of mutual cooperation (gotong-royong).

The Ministry of Housing and Settlements (PKP) continues to strengthen the implementation governance of the BSPS programme to ensure it reaches the intended targets. This effort is being carried out through synergy with the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) to update recipient data using the “Go PKP” digital system.

The BSPS programme is designed to mobilise and increase self-reliance in meeting the needs for decent housing and suitable environments.

The programme’s governance is also being strengthened by a system where the selection of building material shops or providers is conducted by the Recipient Assistance Groups (KPB) and assisted by Field Facilitator Staff (TFL).

By 2026, the BSPS quota is set to increase significantly to 400,000 units, up from 45,000 units in 2025. This increase serves as evidence of the government’s commitment to expanding public access to decent housing.
