Minister of Housing to Significantly Boost Self-Help Housing Programme in Six Provinces

Minister of Housing and Settlements (PKP) Maruarar Sirait (Ara) is ready to significantly increase the Self-Help Housing Stimulant Assistance (BSPS) programme, also known as home renovation, in six provinces. He stated that the six provinces are Gorontalo, Riau, West Sulawesi, South Papua, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB), and Bengkulu. “We are paying attention to these areas because many still need assistance in the housing sector, especially the BSPS or home renovation programme. And we have discussed home renovations in these provinces; based on our staff’s evaluation, we will increase them significantly,” Ara said in a statement in Jakarta on Wednesday. He added that the BSPS programme is an example of how a programme is greatly enjoyed and anticipated by the community, while also being very beneficial for the people. The Self-Help Housing Stimulant Assistance (BSPS) is government funding support for the improvement of housing quality or new house construction carried out by low-income communities on a self-help basis and founded on the principle of mutual cooperation. The Ministry of Housing and Settlements (PKP) continues to strengthen the governance of the BSPS Programme implementation to ensure it is better targeted. This effort is carried out through synergy with the Ministry of Home Affairs (Kemendagri) and Statistics Indonesia (BPS) in updating beneficiary data by utilising the “Go PKP” digital system. The BSPS programme aims to mobilise and increase self-reliance in fulfilling the need for liveable housing and its environment. The programme’s governance is also strengthened by a system where the selection of shops or building material suppliers is carried out by the Beneficiary Group (KPB) and assisted by Field Facilitators (TFL). In 2026, the BSPS quota will increase significantly to 400,000 units from the previous 45,000 units in 2025. This increase is proof of the government’s commitment to expanding public access to decent housing.
