Minister of Housing and Settlement Areas reviews BSPS programme proposal in Bangkalan Regency
Bangkalan (ANTARA) - Indonesia’s Minister of Housing and Settlement Areas (PKP RI), Maruarar Sirait, reviewed the proposal for the Self-Help Housing Stimulus Assistance (BSPS) programme in Bangkalan Regency, East Java, on Sunday, while also launching the programme for the 2026 fiscal year.
“The BSPS programme for the 2026 fiscal year provides a substantial allocation for the people of Madura Island,” he said during his speech at the event held on Jalan Sukolilo Raya, Sukolilo Village, Labang Subdistrict, Bangkalan.
Bangkalan Regency is one of the regencies on Madura Island designated by the central government as a recipient of the BSPS programme assistance, with 573 houses targeted for renovation out of a total of 3,873 units across Madura.
The remaining 3,300 units of assistance are distributed across three regencies, namely Sampang Regency with 1,300 units, Sumenep with 800 units, and Pamekasan Regency with 1,200 units.
Meanwhile, the total assistance for East Java amounts to 33,000 units, a sharp increase from 4,165 units in 2025.
“This programme is a manifestation of the government’s commitment to improving the quality of people’s housing while promoting equitable housing development in the regions,” he stated.
In addition to BSPS, the government is also preparing micro-housing financing below Rp100 million without collateral, with low interest rates of around 0.5 percent per month.
Maruarar emphasised that the housing sector has broad economic impacts as it involves many business sectors, from building material shops and construction workers to transport drivers, small traders, and the banking sector.
“Because housing can serve as an engine for driving the regional and national economy,” he said.
He also expressed thanks to the Chairman of the House of Representatives Budget Agency, MH Said Abdullah, for approving the programme that is greatly needed by the community.
Ansari, a member of the DPR RI Budget Agency who attended the event representing MH Said Abdullah, stated that the BSPS programme is a tangible form of the state’s presence in helping people own decent housing.
The self-help concept in the programme is the main strength because the community not only receives assistance but is also directly involved in the house-building process.
He also appreciated the central government’s attention through the Ministry of PKP towards the Madura community.
“This programme is the government’s commitment to ensure that people can have decent housing,” said this representative from Electoral District XI Madura.
The Minister of PKP’s visit to Bangkalan concluded with a direct field review, including a newlywed couple in West Sukolilo Village, Labang Subdistrict, Bangkalan, who are also registered as prospective assistance recipients.
The Minister of PKP expressed satisfaction because the prospective recipients indeed meet the requirements, namely living in substandard housing and having low incomes.
Accompanying the Minister of PKP RI were Bangkalan Regent Lukman Hakim, Deputy Regent Moh Fauzan Ja’far, the Forkopimda of Bangkalan Regency, and East Java Deputy Governor Emil Elistianto Dardak.
