Minister of Housing Affirms Housing Microcredit Strengthens Family Economy
Minister of Housing and Residential Areas (PKP) Maruarar Sirait has affirmed that the People’s Business Credit (KUR) for Housing not only aims to help the public own or improve the quality of their homes but also serves as an instrument to strengthen the family economy. Minister Ara, as he is known, expressed appreciation for the performance of PT Bank Rakyat Indonesia (Persero) Tbk as the bank with the highest distribution of Housing KUR in Indonesia during a visit to beneficiaries in Surabaya, East Java, on Monday. According to him, this achievement was one of the factors that encouraged the government to increase the Housing KUR ceiling from Rp36 billion to Rp50 billion. “At the Coordinating Minister’s office, I was summoned along with other ministers who have KUR programmes. Of all these programmes, only the Housing KUR had its ceiling increased from Rp36 billion to Rp50 billion. This would not have been possible without BRI’s hard work. On behalf of the state and government, I thank BRI,” said Minister Ara. He also expressed hope that this success would be followed by appreciation for the Housing KUR distribution team that has shown the best performance. “Please, to the board of directors, the high-achieving KUR team should also be given awards. That way, the Housing KUR will progress further and reach more people,” he said. Minister Ara stressed that the government has established a policy so that KUR loans for MSMEs under Rp100 million do not require collateral, making it easier for the public to obtain access to formal financing. “MSME loans under Rp100 million must not ask for collateral. If there are still those asking for collateral, report it to me. This is a state policy so that people can obtain easy, cheap, and fast financing. The state must be present to fight against loan shark practices,” he asserted. Minister Ara emphasised that housing sector development must go hand in hand with strengthening the family economy so that people can escape poverty sustainably. “Do not just think about building houses, but also about building the family economy. We must see the issue holistically. Do not be proud if a region has many social assistance recipients, because that means there is still much poverty and unemployment. Conversely, when social assistance recipients decrease, that is a sign the government has succeeded in improving people’s welfare,” he said. On the occasion, Minister Ara also motivated the beneficiaries and their families to always prioritise education and a strong work ethic. BRI’s Director of Consumer Banking, Aris Hartanto, expressed appreciation for the support and direction from Minister Ara in strengthening the collaboration between the government and BRI through the Housing KUR Programme. According to Aris, the Housing KUR Programme is part of the government’s effort to provide affordable housing through collaboration across the housing ecosystem. As of 3 August 2026, BRI had recorded Housing KUR closings amounting to Rp410 billion for 1,621 debtors. Meanwhile, as of 31 July 2026, the realisation of Housing KUR distribution had reached Rp11.02 trillion, or approximately 92 percent of the 2026 distribution target of Rp12 trillion. “This achievement demonstrates the high public enthusiasm for the Housing KUR Programme. BRI will continue to support government programmes, including the Housing KUR, so that more people can access easy, fast, and affordable financing,” said Aris.
