Minister of Home Affairs inspects implementation of house renovation programme in Purwakarta
The Minister of Home Affairs, Muhammad Tito Karnavian, conducted an inspection of the implementation of the Self-Help Housing Stimulant Assistance (BSPS) programme, also known as the ‘bedah rumah’ (house renovation) programme, to ensure that President Prabowo Subianto’s priority programme is meeting its targets.
The Minister of Home Affairs carried out the review alongside the Minister of Housing and Residential Areas (PKP), Maruarar Sirait. Both ministers inspected the condition of houses proposed to receive assistance and engaged in dialogue with residents, including Eti Nurhayati and Amung.
“This is Mr Maruarar Sirait, the Minister of Housing; the President has entrusted him with repairing your house,” the Minister of Home Affairs stated in his remarks in Jakarta on Saturday.
Eti expressed her happiness that the house she inhabits with her family has received government attention. Based on field verification by the Ministry of PKP, Eti’s house met several criteria for receiving assistance.
The house’s condition was characterised by fragile roof frames, partially damaged walls, and broken tiles that frequently leak during rain.
“I do not want this to be misdirected. We must not have good houses, or the houses of middle-class or wealthy individuals being repaired while they are still in good condition. That is why the profile was checked earlier,” she remarked.
After inspecting the residents’ homes, the Minister of Home Affairs and the Minister of PKP witnessed the Open Shop Selection (PTT) process for the BSPS. The presence of both ministers serves as a demonstration of the government’s commitment to ensuring that the community obtains decent housing.
Also present at the event were Special Staff to the Minister of Religious Affairs Gugun Gumilar, members of the Regional Leadership Coordination Forum (Forkopimda) from West Java, and other relevant parties.
