Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Minister of Home Affairs, Muhammad Tito Karnavian, in his capacity as the Head of the National Border Management Agency (BNPP), has inaugurated Major General TNI Edi Nurhabad as the Deputy for Border Area Infrastructure Management at the BNPP Office in Jakarta on Wednesday.

The inauguration was carried out in accordance with Presidential Decree (Keppres) Number 121/TPA of 202_ [Note: Source says 2026, likely typo for 2024/2025].

The Minister of Home Affairs expressed hope that Edi Nurhabad’s appointment would bring a fresh perspective and bolster the performance of the BNPP, particularly regarding the management of border area infrastructure. He noted that while the agency’s duties have been performed well, there is still significant room for optimisation.

“Specifically in the field of infrastructure, I request that Mr Edi Nurhabad, along with the three directors and sub-directors under him, truly understand and map out the infrastructure issues present in the border regions,” Tito stated.

In his mandate, the Minister explained that the appointment complies with Law Number 3 of 2025 regarding the Amendment to Law Number 34 of 2004 concerning the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI). This regulation allows active TNI personnel to hold positions within the BNPP.

Consequently, the Minister urged the BNPP staff to ensure that various infrastructure issues in border areas are neither left behind nor neglected. He asserted that well-distributed and high-quality infrastructure development would strengthen the sense of justice for communities living in border regions.

Beyond mapping problems, the Minister emphasised the importance of determining development priorities. This is necessary given the high demand for infrastructure in border areas, which must be balanced against available resources and development stages.

“Understand the problems, map the infrastructure issues in the border areas, and establish priorities, as not everything can be addressed at once. Create a roadmap: what will be done in 2027, what in 2028, and what in 2029,” he said.

In line with these efforts, the Minister also called on the BNPP to strengthen coordination with relevant Ministries and Agencies. Such coordination is vital to ensure that various national programmes—such as public housing, bridge construction, and school revitalisation—are integrated with the development needs of border areas.

Regarding public housing, the Minister advised the BNPP to support the programmes currently being pursued by the Minister of Housing and Residential Areas, Maruarar Sirait. He noted that the implementation of such programmes could provide significant benefits to border communities.

The Minister also opened channels for coordination with the BNPP should any policies or issues require further attention or reinforcement.

“Do not hesitate to report or provide information. If you have good input that is considered urgent, come and see me,” he added.

Also present at the event were the Deputy for National Border Management of the BNPP, Nurdin; the Deputy for Border Area Potential Management of the BNPL, Edfrie Richard Maith; and other relevant officials.
