Minister of Home Affairs Enjoys Nasi Liwet with Tile Truck Drivers in Purwakarta while Discussing 'Gentengisasi' Programme
The Minister of Home Affairs, Muhammad Tito Karnavian, has reached out to tile truck drivers in Purwakarta, West Java. Alongside the Minister of Housing and Residential Areas, Maruarar Sirait, the Minister of Home Affairs gathered with local residents to enjoy a traditional ‘nasi liwet’ meal seated on the floor at the Citeko Market courtyard, Plered District, on Friday (2/10/2026).
This activity is part of a series of events for the launch of 500,000 clay tiles intended to realise the ‘Gentengisasi’ (Tiling) Programme initiated by President Prabowo Subianto. “The drivers, truck drivers, and others have a lot of work ahead and will be tired delivering these tiles. To ensure they don’t get too exhausted, let us eat first,” the Minister of Home Lard said, inviting the drivers.
The Minister stated that the Gentengisasi Programme, launched by President Prabowo, is a government effort to promote the ‘Indonesia Safe, Healthy, Clean, and Beautiful’ (ASRI) Movement. This movement is considered to have beneficial goals for the people. Firstly, to ensure houses become comfortable and decent dwellings by minimising heat and noise during rain. Secondly, in addition to making houses beautiful, clay tile roofs are a signature Indonesian product.
“In our country, these tiles are indeed authentic from ancient times. The uniqueness of Indonesia is its clay tiles,” he remarked.
Through the Gentengisasi Programme, the Minister of Home Affairs hopes that houses in rural areas will become safer from earthquakes while simultaneously stimulating local economies. Consequently, employment will grow at the village level, thereby increasing community welfare. “If all of Indonesia, in various regions, safely uses clay tiles—amounting to tens of millions—it could revitalise tile production centres, including in Plered,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Regent of Purwakarta, Saepul Bahri Binzein, stated that 500,000 tiles from Plered are being transported by 125 trucks. These tiles are planned to be sent to various regions. “Yes, and before the departure, we wanted to eat together first, enjoying Purwakarta’s signature nasi liwet, Minister,” Saepul explained.
For information, the nasi liwet menu enjoyed by the Minister and his officials was prepared by the women of the Plered District Empowerment and Family Welfare Team (TP PKK). The rice was served with watercress, bitter beans (petai), jengkol, sambal, salted fish, tilapia, and roasted chicken (ayam bekakak).
