Minister of Higher Education, Science and Technology Brian Yuliarto has called on Garuda Scholarship recipients to develop their capabilities to make a real impact on Indonesia’s future. ‘You must carefully reflect and determine your own best career path. Some can build startups with just a bachelor’s degree, while those passionate about research should pursue master’s or doctoral studies,’ he said in a statement in Jakarta on Tuesday.

Brian also reminded recipients that the Garuda Scholarship is both a privilege and a significant responsibility. They are expected not to become complacent but to continuously prove their capabilities and competitiveness on a global scale. ‘Having been selected, you should not become too comfortable. Precisely because of the privileges you’ve received, you must prove you can help this nation,’ he said.

The Minister cited his own experience studying in Japan, where the trust and reputation built by Indonesian students abroad can open greater opportunities for themselves and future generations. ‘For instance, you might be trusted by professors there to secure another scholarship. I experienced this myself in Japan. Show that Indonesian students can compete globally,’ he added.

Through the Garuda Scholarship programme, Minister Brian stated his ministry is working to prepare outstanding young generations who not only have academic competencies but also leadership character, international competitiveness, and a commitment to contributing to Indonesia’s progress.

He assured that the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology continues to foster adaptive, innovative, and globally competitive young talents through various high-quality human resource development programmes. ‘Garuda Scholarship recipients are expected to represent Indonesia’s future generation capable of bringing knowledge, technology, and innovation to address national challenges and strengthen Indonesia’s position on the world stage,’ Brian Yuliarto said.
