Minister of Higher Education, Science and Technology Serves as Khatib and Imam for Idul Adha Prayer at ITB
The Minister of Higher Education, Science and Technology (Mendiktisaintek), Prof. Brian Yuliarto, served as khatib and imam for the Idul Adha prayer of 1447 H at ITB’s Ganesha Campus on Wednesday (27/5). The prayer was attended by ITB Rector Prof. Dr. Ir. Tatacipta Dirgantara, students, lecturers, academic staff, and the general public, reflecting the unity of the ITB family and the community in worship during the festive occasion.
In his sermon, Prof. Brian stated that before God, humans are not judged by their possessions but by what they safeguard in their hearts. Idul Adha occurs annually not merely to repeat rituals but to awaken the human heart often forgotten amid worldly busyness.
“This moment serves as a reminder for humans to always prepare for their return to Allah by maintaining sincerity, piety, and concern for others,” he said.
Brian also urged people not to harm or oppress others. The Festival of Sacrifice teaches that life is not solely about possessing everything, but about willingly offering the best to God.
“The highest level of a person is not measured by career achievements or wealth, but by the ability to give generously, share part of their wealth, and help others,” he explained.
During the sermon, Brian also highlighted that a nation’s progress is not solely determined by technological mastery. A progressive nation must also uphold justice, nurture the hearts of its people, and ensure that scientific knowledge grows alongside compassion and care.
Following the prayer, the ITB Rector held a silaturahmi with students, lecturers, and academic staff at ITB’s Wisma Ganesha in Bandung. The gathering provided an opportunity for leadership and the academic community to strengthen bonds. The Idul Adha silaturahmi served as a space for the ITB family to reconnect and reinforce familial ties, reflecting the campus culture of inter-academic relationships.
Aisyah, a Master of Design student from FSRD ITB originally from Yogyakarta, attended the silaturahmi. She expressed joy at meeting fellow students and university leaders.
“Even though I couldn’t return home, this event allowed me to meet fellow students and leaders. The atmosphere was warm and we shared a meal together,” she said.
Through these Idul Adha activities, ITB continues to strengthen solidarity, collaboration, and sharing. The occasion also serves as a reminder that knowledge must progress alongside social compassion, a spirit of sharing, and responsibility to benefit others.
The Idul Adha prayer led by Ust. Sahid Darajat carried the theme ‘Idul Adha: A Moment for Sacrifice to Weave Togetherness and Care for Others’.
The execution of the 1447 H Idul Adha prayer at a tourist spot was conducted in accordance with government regulations on Wednesday (27/5).
