Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology promotes collaboration for sustainable utilisation of natural resources
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology (Mendiktisaintek) Brian Yuliarto is promoting cooperation between universities, industry, academia, and the government sector to sustainably utilise natural resources (SDA) in Indonesia.
This was stated by Brian Yuliarto when opening the second day of the MetConnex 2026 event in Jakarta on Tuesday (12/5).
“If the government, industry, universities, and academia work together, I believe Indonesia’s mining industry can advance to the next level and become the foundation for national industrial transformation,” he said in a statement in Jakarta on Wednesday.
The Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology explained the need to strengthen the mining and metallurgy sectors to move towards processing, refining, and manufacturing based on technology and innovation.
He described this as self-reliance, where Indonesia has the capability, technology, research, and strong human resources (HR) to play a greater role on the global stage.
To achieve this, strengthening the role of universities in supporting national industrial transformation is considered crucial, as institutions in a strategic position to prepare the younger generation to meet future challenges.
“We need more engineers, researchers, innovators, and young talents who understand mining and metallurgy. Therefore, universities are very important. Research must not stop at publication. Science and technology must address real challenges in the industrial world,” Brian emphasised.
It is known that MetConnex 2026 adopts the theme “Strengthening Indonesia’s Metallurgy and Mining Industry: Towards Sustainable Growth and Global Competitiveness”.
This forum brings together mining and metallurgy industry players, academics, researchers, and the government to strengthen collaboration in promoting sustainable and globally oriented downstream industry competitiveness in Indonesia.
