Minister of Higher Education Highlights Urgency of Character Education in Universities

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology (Mendiktisaintek), Brian Yuliarto, has highlighted the importance of character education being consistently provided within higher education institutions. In a statement in Jakarta on Friday, the minister noted that the world’s best universities build quality through attention to small details, such as cleanliness, orderliness, and other minor matters. “During the four years students are nurtured and educated, they live in an environment that accustoms them to seeing things that are good, well-organised, and disciplined. When they later enter society, they will be driven to serve in the best way, just as they were shaped and served while on campus,” he said. Minister Brian also encouraged the dissemination of good practices established within the campus environment, including waste management and cleanliness, to the surrounding community. Through this, higher education institutions not only play a role in educating students but also become role models in fostering a culture of orderly, clean living that positively impacts the environment. The Minister further asserted that lecturers and educational staff are at the forefront of Indonesia’s human resource development. “The role of lecturers is not only to transfer knowledge but also to shape the perspectives, work ethic, character, and creative spirit of the younger generation, building a long-term investment for the nation’s future,” he stated. Separately, President Prabowo Subianto previously emphasised that education is the main key to achieving people’s welfare across all sectors of life. Therefore, the Head of State stressed that human resource development must be carried out comprehensively by improving the quality of education and training for all levels of society. “Education that can bring prosperity to the people in all fields. Education, training for farmers, training for teachers, for nurses, all fields must have improved education and training,” President Prabowo said.
