REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA – Indonesia’s Minister of Hajj and Umrah, Mochamad Irfan Yusuf, has emphasised that the concept of a Hajj war ticket is still in the discussion phase and will be halted if deemed too premature. The Hajj war ticket concept has garnered both support and opposition, particularly on social media.

“If it is considered too premature, we will close it for now until today, while we complete the Hajj that is right in front of us,” said the Minister during a Working Meeting with Commission VIII of the Indonesian House of Representatives at Senayan, Jakarta, on Tuesday (14/4/2026).

Gus Irfan stressed that he was the first to introduce the term. “If asked who is responsible, I am the first person to throw out the term war ticket,” he said.

The Ministry of Hajj, he added, will continue to prioritise preparations and the implementation of the Hajj pilgrimage that is about to take place, before proceeding with discussions on new policies or innovations in the organisation of the Hajj in Indonesia.

This war ticket concept has elicited varied pro and contra responses from the public, especially on social media. Some parties believe that implementing the concept would make it difficult for those in villages or who are not yet digitally literate.

In addition, netizens have questioned the fate of prospective Hajj participants who have been waiting for decades and the potential for Hajj fraud.
