Minister of Hajj: Prabowo Wants the Safety of Pilgrims Guaranteed
Minister of Hajj and Umrah Mochamad Irfan Yusuf stated that the government is paying close attention to the safety of Hajj pilgrims who have begun their series of worship amid the escalation of conflict between Iran and Israel. As the leader of the state institution that is making its debut in managing Hajj this year, Irfan said he feels honoured to bear this great responsibility.
“However, we are not turning a blind eye to the fact that this journey is taking place amid global dynamics, including the increasing conflict in the Middle East. This situation certainly raises concerns for both the government and the families seeing them off,” he said during the farewell gathering with the pilgrims at Soekarno-Hatta Airport, Tangerang, on Wednesday, 22 April 2026.
The Gerindra Party politician then stated that the government is continuously coordinating intensively with relevant authorities to ensure that all pilgrims receive the best protection, services, and security during their worship.
As desired by President Prabowo Subianto, said Irfan. “That is the President’s request, which emphasises that the security and safety of the pilgrims is the top priority,” he said.
Irfan stressed that the government hopes the pilgrims can start their journey calmly and then focus on worshipping. As for matters beyond their control, he hopes they are left to the government to strive as best as possible.
At Soekarno-Hatta Airport, Irfan farewelled the first batch of Hajj pilgrims from the Cipondoh embarkation point, numbering 391 people. He believes they are physically and mentally prepared to perform the pilgrimage.
“For pilgrims who are patient, full of sincerity and enthusiasm, because Hajj is not only our relationship with Allah, but also how we relate to fellow human beings,” he said.
