Minister of Environment: Companies Receiving Proper Award See Share Prices Rise

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Minister of Environment and Head of the Environmental Control Agency Hanif Faisol Nurofiq stated that companies receiving the Proper Green and Proper Gold awards have a positive influence on their share values. “On the business side, this also has a more positive impact on companies that receive Proper Green or Proper Gold, as their share prices will immediately rise sharply,” said Hanif Faisol Nurofiq at the Proper Environmental Award ceremony in Jakarta on Tuesday. According to him, this means that society is increasingly aware of the importance of companies complying with environmental regulations. “Of course, we interpret this as society’s growing awareness of the importance of environmental quality. Environmental quality is partly symbolised by the ratings given by the government, one of which is the Proper rating, since the public does not directly know the field conditions,” said Hanif Faisol Nurofiq. The Proper award evaluation indicators by the Ministry of Environment consist of two main categories: compliance with environmental regulations, including environmental documents, hazardous waste, and water/air pollution. Then, beyond compliance, which includes energy efficiency, emission reduction, social innovation, and biodiversity management. From the approximately 74,000 companies in Indonesia, the number of companies participating in this year’s Proper Environmental Award reaches 5,476 companies. From that number, at this event, the Proper Green award was given to 243 companies, nine company leaders received the Proper Green Leadership award, and 39 companies received the Proper Gold award. Proper is a performance programme of the Ministry of Environment that has reached three decades, starting from 1995.
