Minister of Culture: 'Panoramica' exhibition marks 60 years of Indonesia-Uruguay ties
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Minister of Culture Fadli Zon has stated that the ‘Panoramica’ art exhibition forms part of the commemoration of 60 years of diplomatic relations between Indonesia and Uruguay and strengthens bilateral ties through cultural channels. “This is a commemoration of 60 years of diplomatic relations between Indonesia and Uruguay, which began on 9 June 1966. Culture can serve as a bridge between the two countries even though they are geographically very far apart,” Fadli Zon said during the exhibition’s inauguration at the National Gallery of Indonesia in Jakarta on Thursday. Fadli expressed hope that cultural cooperation between Indonesia and Uruguay will continue to grow, not only through exhibitions of Uruguayan artists’ works in Indonesia, but also by presenting works by Indonesian artists in that South American country. He also expressed hope that Uruguayan artist Manuel Rodríguez can present works reflecting the experience and expression of Indonesian culture, as he has done in various other countries. Furthermore, Fadli said the government plans to continue cultural collaboration with Uruguay, including through the holding of an art exhibition in October 2026. “We hope to present similar activities in Indonesia, while also bringing works and stories about Indonesia to Uruguay at the appropriate time,” he stated. Meanwhile, Uruguayan Ambassador to Indonesia Cristina Gonzalez said the exhibition is an important momentum for introducing Uruguay’s cultural identity to the Indonesian public. “Through art, we can build dialogue that transcends geographical and language boundaries. This exhibition represents the Uruguayan spirit while also showcasing universal values that are also close to Indonesian culture, such as the human relationship with nature, tradition, and identity,” Gonzalez said. The Embassy of Uruguay in Indonesia, in cooperation with the Ministry of Culture through the Museum and Cultural Heritage and the National Gallery of Indonesia, organised the exhibition as a space for cultural exchange that strengthens the friendship between the two countries. The ‘Panoramica’ exhibition features the works of two Uruguayan artists, Luis Fabini and Manuel Rodríguez, who present different approaches to landscapes and humanity’s relationship with nature. The exhibition runs from 5 to 28 June 2026 in Building D of the National Gallery of Indonesia, Jakarta.
