Minister of Culture honours Nasirun as an open-minded artist

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Minister of Culture Fadli Zon remembered the late Nasirun, an Indonesian fine arts maestro, as a warm and highly open artist.

“He was a person I knew, someone who loved to laugh, was very open, inclusive, without boundaries, and socialised with everyone,” he said, as quoted in a ministry press release in Jakarta on Sunday.

“His house doors were always open to anyone; one could almost say his house was rarely locked, and he never stopped creating,” he added.

Fadli admitted that he frequently visited Nasirun’s gallery and home before the artist passed away on 1 August 2026.

“I have often visited his gallery or his home for over a decade, and I experienced a sense of intimacy in socialising that is rarely found these days,” he said.

While attending a memorial service held by Nasirun’s family in the Special Region of Yogyakarta, the Minister of Culture stated that Nasirun’s openness was reflected in his artworks.

“One cannot help but say that his work truly merges with his soul,” he remarked.

The exhibition is expected to serve as a space for art lovers to view Nasirun’s works and witness the maestro’s exemplary approach to art.

The Minister of Culture noted that the exhibition could serve as a momentum for the family, artists, and the public to pay their respects to Nasirun and offer prayers.

Nasirun’s wife, Supartilah, expressed appreciation for the government’s support for her late husband.

“Hopefully, every work by the late Nasirun can continue to enliven the art world, specifically within the nation, and generally for the Indonesian people who love art,” she said.
