Our future success must not be measured solely by derivative regulations, but based on outputs or real impacts. Whether recidivism decreases, our overcapacity reduces, and whether justice is felt by society,” said Minister Agus at the National Seminar on Corrections themed ‘Transformation of the Correctional System in the Implementation of the New Criminal Code and Criminal Procedure Code’ in Jakarta on Wednesday (6/5/2026). On the other hand, Minister Agus expressed pride in the performance of the Directorate General of Corrections (Ditjenpas) for organising the 7th World Congress on Probation and Parole (WCPP) in Bali in mid-April. As many as 400 delegates from 44 countries attended this international congress amid global political dynamics. “We should be proud because the transformation and real work that we promote have indeed resonated and been recognised by the world. Recently, the world’s attention was focused on the hosting of the 7th WCPP in Bali. Amid global political dynamics, 400 delegates from 44 countries placed full trust to attend and witness directly the heart of our rehabilitation efforts,” stated Minister Agus. “Especially those carried out by the Bangli Narcotics Penitentiary and Griya Adipura Bapas Karangasem,” he continued. Minister Agus appreciated his subordinates who have demonstrated programmes related to the social reintegration of inmates. At the Bangli Narcotics Penitentiary and Griya Adipura Bapas Karangasem, the reintegration concept is combined with local wisdom. “There, the world witnessed firsthand how the values of restorative justice and social reintegration, which are the soul of the Criminal Code and Criminal Procedure Code, can be nobly integrated with local wisdom. The world’s response was extraordinary; our humanistic approach received international praise because it is considered capable of addressing the root of the problems,” said Minister Agus. Minister Agus opined that the recognition of Indonesia’s inmate reintegration system in Bali by delegates from participating countries at the WCPP affirms that Indonesia’s correctional system is no longer underestimated. “This recognition affirms that Indonesia’s correctional system is no longer underestimated, but has become part of a sustainable solution in the criminal justice system,” he concluded.
