Minister of Cooperatives and Bappenas Support Strengthening of Production Sector Cooperatives

Bappenas supports the development of production sector cooperatives through a blueprint that will be regulated in a presidential regulation, involving the Ministry of Agriculture, Ministry of Industry, and Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries.

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Minister of Cooperatives Ferry Juliantono and Minister for National Development Planning/Head of Bappenas Rachmat Pambudi have emphasised the government’s commitment to strengthening production sector cooperatives as part of the national development agenda.

Following a working meeting at the Ministry of National Development Planning/Bappenas office in Jakarta on Wednesday, the Minister of Cooperatives stated that the government is preparing a Presidential Regulation on the development of production sector cooperatives.

“Bappenas supports the development of production sector cooperatives through a blueprint that will be regulated in the presidential regulation, involving the Ministry of Agriculture, Ministry of Industry, and Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries,” he said in an official statement in Jakarta.

He added that the regulation aims to strengthen the role of production sector cooperatives in the national economy.

In addition, the government is positioning cooperatives within the National Medium-Term Development Plan (RPJMN) 2025–2029 to support food and energy self-sufficiency, industrial downstreaming, and village development.

Meanwhile, Minister for National Development Planning/Head of Bappenas Rachmat Pambudi stated that his side will continue to support the development of production sector cooperatives, including through the Red and White Village/Urban Village Cooperatives programme.

Based on the 2023 Ministry of Cooperatives and SMEs Performance Report, the number of cooperatives in Indonesia is recorded at 130,354 units.

Of that number, consumer cooperatives dominate with 71,315 units and total assets of Rp111.45 trillion. Next, producer cooperatives number 26,969 units with assets of Rp23.53 trillion.

Then, savings and loan cooperatives are recorded at 18,699 units with assets of Rp124.66 trillion, service cooperatives at 9,114 units with assets of Rp19.94 trillion, and marketing cooperatives at 4,257 units with assets of Rp1.92 trillion.
