Indonesia’s Ministry of Communications and Digital (Komdigi) said many components of regulatory compliance in Indonesia have not been met by Meta, the company led by Mark Zuckerberg. Consequently, Komdigi, in cooperation with other agencies, conducted a surprise inspection at Meta’s office in Senayan, Kebayoran Baru, South Jakarta, on Wednesday 4 March 2026.

‘This was carried out after various government attempts to communicate with Meta, whether formally, persuasively, and ultimately by carrying out a sidak. Because many compliance requirements have not been fulfilled,’ Meutya Hafid said after the inspection. ‘Under 30 per cent,’ she emphasised.

During the sidak, Hafid asked Meta for several measures, including transparency of algorithms and content moderation. In addition, Meta was urged to fulfil reporting obligations in accordance with applicable regulations. ‘Even though there were questions that could not be answered, we asked for heightened oversight,’ she added.

Therefore, adequate oversight is required to ensure the digital space remains safe and protects the public. To date, there has been no definitive explanation about the number of parties responsible for monitoring disinformation content.

Hafid explained that the most common disinformation relates to health issues. She said she had received many complaints from doctors and health workers about misinformation with serious consequences, including resulting in the loss of lives of children and community members. In addition, disinformation is rife in digital crimes such as fraud and scams. Reports related to these cases are among the most frequently received and harm various segments of society, especially those in lower economic groups.
