Minister of Communication and Digital Reveals Sophistication of Hayam Wuruk Online Gambling Syndicate
Minister of Communication and Digital (Menkomdigi) Meutya Hafid has revealed the sophistication of the technology used by an international online gambling (judol) syndicate that was raided in the Hayam Wuruk area of Jakarta. Meutya assured that Komdigi is collaborating with authorities to address the increasingly advanced technology of online gambling.
“From this case, we see that the perpetrators continue to adapt technologically, starting with quick domain changes, the use of foreign servers, the utilisation of camouflaged accounts, and dissemination through closed communication groups,” said Meutya to Republika on Tuesday (14/5/2026).
Meutya explained that there has been intensive communication with the Indonesian National Police (Polri) over the past month. Meutya indicated that the uncovering of the case in Hayam Wuruk is evidence of cross-institutional cooperation.
“Over the past month, we have had quite intensive communication with the Chief of Police. Komdigi continues to collaborate with the police because prevention and law enforcement must go hand in hand to tackle organised transnational crime,” stated Meutya.
Meutya noted that eradicating online gambling cannot be done by Komdigi alone. Especially for law enforcement matters, it must be carried out by Polri.
“Komdigi emphasises that eradicating online gambling requires cooperation from law enforcers, financial supervisors, digital platforms, internet service providers, and public participation,” said Meutya.
Meutya also affirmed that the raid in Hayam Wuruk is proof that the government is present in efforts to combat online gambling continuously. Meutya guaranteed that Komdigi will continue to monitor the digital space to keep it free from online gambling.
“Komdigi continues to strengthen cyber patrols, and this is done together with Polri and other parties,” said Meutya.
