The Minister of Communication and Digital, Meutya Hafid, has disclosed that the names of members of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) are frequently being used by scammers via fraudulent telephone calls. These scammers employ a modus operandi of pretending to be members of parliament or public officials to request donations.

Meutya shared this information during a meeting with Commission I of the DPR RI at the Parliament Complex in Senayan, Central Jakarta, on Monday, 18 May 2026. She noted that the Ministry has received numerous reports regarding these scam calls.

“We have also received complaints; regarding scam calls, there are many reports of phone numbers, perhaps the most frequent, where individuals pretend to be members of the DPR or public officials to ask for donations,” Meutya stated during the meeting.

Meutya mentioned that 3,000 telephone numbers related to spam calls have been blocked. “This involves impersonation; we have blocked 3,000 telephone numbers,” she added.

Furthermore, Meutya explained that 2,500 telephone numbers were blocked for direct fraud, and over 13,000 numbers were blocked in relation to fictitious online investments, online gambling, and fraudulent online trading.

“These figures could be even higher if the public were more accustomed to reporting when they encounter suspicious or fraudulent numbers; please report them immediately,” she explained. Meutya emphasised that her department will proceed with immediate blocking upon receiving reports from the public to ensure access to such numbers is severed.
