JAKARTA - The Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs (Menkomdigi), Meutya Hafid, stated that the deactivation of social media accounts that have complied with access restrictions for children under 16 years old is still being carried out gradually. Therefore, Meutya explained, some children have had their accounts deactivated, while others have not. “This is done gradually. So, for example, if there is a child who is immediately affected, but there are others who are not yet affected, this is indeed because it is done gradually,” Meutya said during a press conference at the Komdigi office in Jakarta on Wednesday (22/4/2026). Meanwhile, Meutya mentioned that Komdigi still requires assistance from each parent in supervising their children. “Of course, in enforcement, it is not enough with just government regulations or industry measures; we still urge parents to also help in protecting their children in the digital realm,” she added. Access restrictions for users are part of the implementation of Government Regulation No. 17 of 2025 on the Governance of Electronic System Operators in Child Protection (PP TUNAS).
