Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs Rejects Amien Rais's Accusations Against Prabowo and Teddy
Recently, a video statement by Amien Rais uploaded to his YouTube channel has shocked the public. The statement regarding the relationship between President Prabowo Subianto and Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya, which he accused of being excessive, has been refuted by the Ministry of Communication and Digital (Komdigi).
In the video upload viewed by detikcom on Saturday (2/5/2026), the video is now inaccessible on the Amien Rais Official YouTube channel. The video, titled “KEEP THE PALACE AWAY FROM MORAL SCANDALS”, lasts about 8 minutes.
Minister of Communication and Digital Meutya Hafid spoke out about the video uploaded by Amien Rais. Meutya described the video as character assassination.
“The Ministry of Communication and Digital (Komdigi) has identified the dissemination of a video containing defamatory narratives, character assassination, and personal attacks directed at the President of the Republic of Indonesia. The video was uploaded by the Chairman of the Shura Council of Partai Ummat,” Meutya stated in an Instagram post @kemkomdigi on Saturday (2/5/2026).
Meutya said Amien Rais’s statement contains hate speech. She assessed that his statement has the potential to divide the nation.
“Komdigi emphasises that the content of the video is a hoax, slander, and contains hate speech. The narrative constructed is an attempt to demean the dignity of the country’s highest leader, lacks factual basis, and is part of a provocation to create public unrest. This has the potential to divide the nation,” she said.
“The digital democracy space is a space for debating ideas, not for producing hate content that attacks anyone’s human dignity,” she added.
Meutya stated that Komdigi will take steps in accordance with applicable laws. Anyone who creates, distributes, and/or transmits the video knowingly, she said, has committed a legal violation as regulated in the ITE Law Number 1 of 2024 Article 27A and Article 28 (2).
ABP Ready for Legal Action
Volunteers for President Prabowo Subianto, grouped under Arus Bawah Prabowo (ABP), affirmed they will pursue legal action regarding Amien Rais’s statement, which they consider vile slander and provocative. ABP views the statement as damaging the reputation of Prabowo and Cabinet Secretary Teddy.
“Amien Rais’s remarks are a reckless personal attack against President Prabowo Subianto and Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya. This is no longer criticism, but rather vile accusations without basis forced to seem like truth. This statement is clearly hallucinatory and misleading to the public,” emphasised Supriyanto, Chairman of the DPP of Arus Bawah Prabowo (ABP), in his statement on Saturday (2/5/2026).
He assessed that the narrative built by Amien Rais far exceeds the bounds of propriety. According to him, Amien Rais has dragged personal morality issues without accountable evidence.
He even viewed the statement as a form of agitation that could damage political stability and public trust in the government.
“If criticism is delivered with data and arguments, it is healthy. But if what is spread is wild assumptions, gossip, and vile insinuations, it is no longer democracy. It is character assassination,” Supriyanto continued.
Additionally, Supriyanto assessed that Amien Rais’s statement shows a tendency towards increasingly extreme and irrational rhetoric. According to him, the public deserves healthy political discourse.
“Statements like this are more like delusional opinions forced into facts. It is regrettable if they come from a figure once known as part of the reform movement,” Supriyanto said.
Partai Ummat: Offside!
DPP Chairman of Partai Ummat Aznur Syamsu spoke out regarding Amien Rais’s statement on his YouTube channel about the closeness between President Prabowo Subianto and Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya. Aznur emphasised that Amien Rais’s statement has no connection to his party.
“That is Pak Amien’s personal statement, it has nothing to do with Partai Ummat,” he said when contacted on Saturday (2/5/2026).
Aznur admitted he deeply regrets the statement. Especially since Amien Rais was once a national figure.
“We from Partai Ummat regret statements like that from Pak Amien Rais, especially since he is a figure, at least he was once a figure,” he said.
He reiterated that the statement has no connection to national and state issues. Aznur said Amien Rais has committed a foul.
“It has no connection to current national and state issues. Pak Amien Rais is offside,” he added.
Partai Ummat Chairman Permits Legal Route
General Chairman of Partai Ummat Ridho Rahmadi responded to Amien Rais’s statement on his YouTube channel regarding the closeness between President Prabowo Subianto and Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya. Ridho permits anyone to pursue legal channels.
“If anyone feels harmed, they are free to pursue legal channels as guaranteed in this country. We cannot restrict their right to exercise their rights,” Ridho said when contacted on Saturday (2/5/2026).
“But do not let the law be used as a political weapon that is selectively applied according to the whims of power,” he continued.
Nevertheless, he assessed that Amien Rais’s statement is merely voicing concerns circulating in society. However, he said, Amien Rais conveyed it in his characteristic straightforward language.
“This is a form of his concern and love for this nation and Pak Prabowo as his longtime friend. We have all witnessed his critical track record and courage since the New Order era,” he stated.
