Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs Appreciates X and Bigo Live for Complying with Child Protection Regulations
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs Meutya Hafid has appreciated the fully cooperative stance demonstrated by the digital platforms X and Bigo Live in fulfilling their obligations under Government Regulation No. 17 of 2025 on the Governance of Electronic System Operators in Child Protection (PP TUNAS).
“We appreciate the platforms that are fully cooperative in meeting compliance obligations, namely X and Bigo Live,” said Meutya during a press conference at the Ministry of Communication and Digital Office on Friday (27/3).
The steps taken by both platforms are seen as concrete compliance that goes beyond mere commitments, having been implemented through actual system and policy adjustments.
Platform X has set a change in the minimum age limit to 16 years, as stated on its Help Centre page. In addition, X has committed to beginning the process of identifying and deactivating accounts of users under age starting from 28 March 2026.
Meanwhile, Bigo Live has adjusted its minimum age limit to 18+, as stated in its User Agreement and Privacy Policy, and strengthened its protection system through layered moderation that combines artificial intelligence technology and human oversight to address underage accounts.
The Minister emphasised that these steps are proof that global digital platforms are capable of quickly and responsibly meeting Indonesia’s regulatory obligations.
“The government instructs all digital platforms doing business in Indonesia to immediately align their products, features, and services in accordance with applicable regulations. I emphasise that there is no compromise on compliance to operate in Indonesia. There must be no compromise,” Meutya stressed.
Furthermore, the government emphasises that the compliance shown by X and Bigo Live must become the minimum standard followed by all other platforms.
The government will continue to monitor every movement of the platforms on a daily basis to ensure that every commitment is not just formalities, but is implemented in real actions.
For platforms that have not yet shown full compliance, the government urges them to immediately complete all obligations without delay. The government has also prepared escalation measures and will not hesitate to take firm administrative actions to ensure Indonesia’s digital space remains safe and child-friendly.
