Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Minister of Basic and Secondary Education (Mendikdasmen), Abdul Mu’ti, has expressed support for the implementation of PP Tunas in creating healthy learning spaces for pupils to study, interact, and develop character in line with their developmental stages. According to Mu’ti, the growing addiction to gadgets has a detrimental impact on the learning process, including making children more difficult to concentrate, reducing study time, and decreasing social interactions in the school environment. “We have observed directly in schools that addiction to gadget use can have a negative impact on the learning process. Therefore, the policy to delay children’s access to high-risk digital platforms is an important step to ensure that technology remains a supportive tool for education, not the other way around,” stated Mendikdasmen Mu’ti when contacted in Jakarta on Saturday afternoon. He assured that the Ministry of Education supports the implementation of the new regulation launched by the Ministry of Communication and Digital (Kemkomdigi) by parallelly strengthening digital literacy programmes in educational institutions, particularly for pupils under teacher supervision. In addition, he said the Ministry of Education is also ready to encourage schools to provide more alternative physical activities for pupils. “The public need not worry; we ensure that digital literacy programmes in educational institutions will continue to run in parallel,” he emphasised. He added that the enactment of Government Regulation number 17 of 2025 on the Protection and Governance of Electronic Systems in Child Protection (PP Tunas) is also in line with efforts to develop pupils’ character through the 7 Habits of Great Indonesian Children and the implementation of 3S (Screen Time, Screen Zoom, and Screen Break), which are priority programmes of the Ministry of Education. Previously, on Friday night (27/3), the Minister of Communication and Digital (Menkomdigi), Meutya Hafid, emphasised that the Indonesian government will not compromise with digital platforms that fail to comply with the mandate to protect children in the digital space in line with Government Regulation number 17 of 2025 on the Protection and Governance of Electronic Systems in Child Protection (PP Tunas). “The government instructs all digital platforms doing business in Indonesia to immediately align their products, features, and services in accordance with applicable regulations. There is no compromise on compliance, and every business entity operating in Indonesia is obliged to comply with the laws in force in Indonesia,” Meutya stressed.
