Minister of Basic and Secondary Education Reminds of Ki Hajar Dewantara's Educational Concept
Indonesia’s Minister of Basic and Secondary Education (Mendikdasmen RI), Abdul Mu’ti, has reminded of the educational concept of the Among method pioneered by Ki Hajar Dewantara, which emphasises the approaches of momong, among, and ngemong in shaping the character of the younger generation.
“This concept is relevant to be applied in the management of mosques as spaces for nurturing generations,” he said while attending the inauguration ceremony of Masjid Al-Huda Muhammadiyah in Burneh, Bangkalan, East Java, on Friday.
With this approach, he said, mosques would not only serve as places for ritual worship but could also become centres for learning and value formation.
According to Mu’ti, mosques must become living and productive spaces, as many grand mosques stand in various regions but have yet to be utilised optimally.
The inauguration of Masjid Al-Huda Muhammadiyah in Burneh, Bangkalan, combined with a grand silaturrahmi, was also attended by Bangkalan Regent Lukman Hakim, Deputy Regent Moh Fauzan Ja’far, Chairman of the Muhammadiyah East Java Regional Board Sukadiono, Rector of Trunojoyo Madura University (UTM) Prof. Safi’, Forkopimda officials, and local community figures.
According to the Head of the Muhammadiyah Bangkalan District Board (PDM) Rik Suhadi, the event themed ‘Revitalising the Function of Mosques in Modern Society’ serves as an effort to strengthen the role of mosques as centres of education and civilisation for the ummah.
“The inauguration of Masjid Al-Huda in Burneh, Bangkalan, also marks an important strengthening of the role of mosques in Bangkalan. Synergy between Muhammadiyah, the government, and the community is expected to make mosques the driving force for education and social advancement at the local level,” he said.
