Minister of Basic and Secondary Education Prepares Mechanism to Monitor ASN Performance During WFH

Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Minister of Basic and Secondary Education (Mendikdasmen), Abdul Mu’ti, has prepared mechanisms to monitor the performance of civil servants (ASN) during the implementation of the work-from-home (WFH) policy on Fridays as an effort to support energy-saving measures amid the Middle East conflict.

Mu’ti stated that the WFH implementation is not a new policy, as the work-from-home mechanism was previously applied during the COVID-19 pandemic, so his office is ready to reapply existing guidelines with some adjustments.

“There is a mechanism we have developed regarding the performance targets that must be met when they work from home. This is actually not new at all because it was implemented during the COVID-19 period, so various guidelines that we issued back then will be adjusted with the new mechanism,” said Mendikdasmen Mu’ti after the Launching of the Women’s Empowerment Month through Education at the Language Agency Office, Central Jakarta, on Wednesday.

Furthermore, he explained that the monitoring mechanism is based on the principle of guidance, so his office is prepared to provide rewards or punishments to ASN according to their performance during WFH.

The rewards and punishments, he said, aim to ensure that the WFH policy is not misused for holidays at home, which could result in unfinished work responsibilities.

For activities of the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education that directly involve the public, such as the Integrated Service Unit (ULT), his office will continue to implement scheduled work-from-office (WFO) policies to accommodate complaints or aspirations from the public that are not submitted through online channels.

Meanwhile, for teaching and learning activities, he emphasised that they will continue to be conducted in person for five days at school.

“There will still be presence at the office, as exceptions are made for services that cannot be left unattended, for example, the ULT Integrated Service Unit, as not all public complaints or aspirations are submitted online. For learning, it remains five days and will be carried out as usual,” he said.

Previously, on Tuesday (31/3), the government officially implemented the work-from-home (WFH) policy for civil servants (ASN) every Friday.

Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto stated that the policy will take effect from 1 April 2026 and will be evaluated after two months of implementation.
