Minister: No transport facility damage during 27 August demonstration

Transport Minister Dudy Purwagandhi has stated that there are no reports of damage to public transport facilities resulting from the demonstration held on Thursday (27/8) in front of the DPR/MPR building in Jakarta.

The minister said the only disruption that occurred was an obstruction to travel at Palmerah Station, but no damage to public transport facilities or infrastructure has been found to date.

“So far there has been none (damage to public transport facilities). Perhaps yesterday there was an obstruction at Palmerah Station, but there have been no reports of damage to public transport facilities,” the minister said when met after attending a Maulid Nabi commemoration with Gojek driver partners and the symbolic release of 70 Gojek Legend Driver Partners in Jakarta on Friday evening (28/8).

According to Dudy, the government continues to monitor transport service conditions so that the public can continue to use various modes of public transport safely and comfortably.

“But so far, hopefully there is no (damage to public transport facilities),” he said.

He explained that a number of transport route diversions were carried out as a precautionary measure to maintain the smooth movement of the public during the expression of aspirations around the DPR building.

The minister assessed that traffic and transport management needed to be carried out so that people expressing their opinions still have space, while public transport users are not overly disrupted.

The government, Dudy said, is trying to manage the situation in a balanced manner so that the interests of expressing aspirations and the public’s need to use transport facilities can proceed together.

“So, we arrange it in such a way that each party’s interests are protected,” said Dudy.

The minister expressed hope that the aspirations conveyed during the action can be well received after the DPR leadership provided space to listen to the various demands of the public.

The minister urged the public to continue maintaining order and to use public facilities wisely so that transport services can continue to operate safely for all users.

He also expressed hope that the entire series of expressions of opinion can be concluded soon so that public activities, including public transport services, can return to normal as before.

“I think yesterday you saw, right? It has been received by the DPR leadership. We hope this is now finished and we can return to our activities as usual,” said the minister.
