Minister Mu'ti: Over 80,000 Schools in Indonesia Successfully Revitalised

Primary and Secondary Education Minister Abdul Mu’ti stated that the government has successfully revitalised more than 80,000 educational units across the country during the 2025-2026 period. “In 2025 there were 16,167 schools, and this year there is an additional 71,744 schools targeted for the revitalisation programme throughout 2026,” he said after inaugurating the opening of an international class programme at SD Aisyiyah Multilingual Darussalam Kudus (SDA Mulida) in Getassrabi Village, Gebog District, Kudus Regency, on Saturday.

Initially, Mu’ti said, the government targeted the revitalisation of 11,744 educational units with a budget of Rp14 trillion. Then an additional 60,000 educational units were added, bringing the total revitalisation target to 71,744 schools. He noted that 70 percent of the budget has already been disbursed, so some construction has already been carried out, and some projects can be inaugurated in the coming months. “Meanwhile, the additional 60,000 educational units can begin in August or September 2026,” he said.

The revitalisation programme covers the renovation of school buildings, from kindergarten to senior high school level. The 71,744 educational units targeted this year include schools in Kudus Regency. “However, the number of schools in Kudus targeted for revitalisation must be checked first because the data is constantly changing, as there will be further additions,” he said. He revealed that there are currently still many schools that need to be rehabilitated and revitalised. “As the President has said on various occasions, hopefully by the end of 2028 all damaged schools can be rehabilitated,” he said.
