Minister Mukhtarudin Frustrated as KP2MI Always Held Accountable for Human Trafficking Cases

Minister for the Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers (P2MI) Mukhtarudin has admitted his frustration with cases of human trafficking (TPPO) involving Indonesian citizens. He stated that almost every trafficking case results in the Ministry of P2MI (KP2MI) being asked to take responsibility. “To be honest, I am already frustrated with this TPPO issue. Because people do not understand, when workers abroad are victims, meaning they are migrant workers, the complaints always come to us,” Mukhtarudin said during a meeting with Commission IX of the House of Representatives in Jakarta on Friday. “Whether they are victims of TPPO or non-procedural workers, the ones who always complain and are asked to take responsibility is KP2MI,” he added. Despite this, Mukhtarudin explained that his ministry continues to resolve these human trafficking cases involving Indonesian nationals by strengthening coordination with the National Police, the Indonesian Military, and the Immigration Directorate General. “So it involves all stakeholders. We continue to coordinate and optimise coordination with all stakeholders—the police, the military, immigration, and also the Ministry of Law—in order to strengthen synergy among all interest groups to suppress and eradicate this problem,” he concluded.
