Minister Muhaimin Ensures Non-Discriminatory BPJS Health Services

Coordinating Minister for Community Empowerment Muhaimin Iskandar has stressed that services provided by BPJS Kesehatan must be enjoyed by all levels of society without discrimination. This is particularly important for Contribution Assistance Beneficiaries, whose premiums are fully covered by the state. The statement was made during a direct inspection of BPJS patient services at Prof. Ngoerah General Hospital in Denpasar, Bali, on Wednesday. During the visit, he monitored services for catastrophic diseases, including patients with kidney failure undergoing routine haemodialysis. ‘What makes me especially happy is that BPJS Contribution Assistance Beneficiaries, for whom the government spends Rp47 trillion annually, are being served very well, without any differentiation,’ he said. He explained that the social security system in Indonesia is a tangible manifestation of large-scale mutual cooperation. The government allocates tens of trillions of rupiah for Contribution Assistance Beneficiaries, while independent citizens and the business sector contribute through regular premiums. This synergy allows patients with high medical costs to remain covered. He cited the example of kidney failure patients requiring approximately Rp1.2 million for a single dialysis session. With a frequency of twice a week, the total cost reaches Rp9.6 million per month. This significant burden is managed through a cross-subsidy mechanism among BPJS participants. ‘This is proof that BPJS is truly a mutual cooperation body. It is supported by the government, independent participants, and corporations. I call it a giant mutual cooperation body for safeguarding health,’ he added. Looking ahead, the Coordinating Ministry for Community Empowerment is committed to strengthening cross-ministerial coordination to ensure the governance and financial condition of BPJS remain sound. He also urged citizens who are financially capable to be disciplined in paying their premiums as a form of social solidarity for those in need. ‘We will continue to ensure that BPJS Kesehatan grows and becomes strong financially, managerially, and in its services,’ he concluded.
