Minister of UMKM Maman Abdurrahman has announced that from early September 2026, interest rates on the PNM Mekaar programme will be cut to just 8 percent, down from a previous average of around 20 percent.

The move is being carried out to implement President Prabowo’s instruction, who had previously asked that credit interest rates for underprivileged women in the PNM Mekaar programme be brought down to below 10 percent.

“Alhamdulillah, the formulation, pattern and mechanism have been found and the interest rate has been decided at approximately 8 percent,” Maman said after attending the KUR Coordination Meeting held at the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs office in Jakarta on Wednesday, 12 August 2026.

“We have also held a coordination meeting with Danantara. God willing, it will come into effect at an estimated time of around early September,” he said.

Maman explained that the coordination meeting on KUR held by the government today was a follow-up to President Prabowo’s directive, who had ordered that the execution of the interest rate cut be accelerated as soon as possible.

As such, it is hoped that the low-interest credit in the PNM Mekaar programme can soon be enjoyed by the underprivileged women who are its customers.

“Because the President’s order is that execution must be accelerated immediately, so that it can be directly enjoyed by the women in the Mekaar programme, and going forward they will no longer be burdened with fairly high interest rates,” Maman said.

He confirmed that the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs, the Ministry of Finance, and Danantara have also begun coordinating to realise the interest rate cut in the PNM Mekaar programme.

“So now it has been decided that the PNM Mekaar credit interest rate is at 8 percent, and it will come into effect in early September. And we have discussed it with the Coordinating Minister, as well as with the Ministry of Finance and Danantara,” he said.
