Jakarta (ANTARA) - Minister of Population and Family Development/Kepala BKKBN Wihaji has stated that the language of love is key to maintaining family harmony amidst the rapid advancement of technology and changes in lifestyle.

According to him, the family is the primary foundation for building quality human resources, so understanding character and the language of love is considered one of the important keys to maintaining harmony.

“How do we improve the family? If we understand the language of love, character, and love, God willing, half the problems are solved,” Wihaji said in an official statement in Jakarta on Sunday.

Wihaji stressed that technological developments and changes in people’s lifestyles demand new approaches to building healthy family relationships.

“We certainly must have new ways, new knowledge, new methods for the common good. Understanding the language of love and character is one of the important provisions so that families can adapt to the changing times,” he said.

Meanwhile, neuroscientist and family consultant Aisah Dahlan explained that character is an innate human programme given from birth and inherited genetically. However, differences in character should not be used as a reason to label each other as good or bad because every individual has unique characteristics.

She added that innate character does not mean it cannot be shaped, because even though the character programme is already embedded in the human brain from the womb, it can be directed.

“Character can be shaped by instilling knowledge and life principles in the front part of the brain, namely the frontal lobe,” said Aisah.

According to her, knowledge, upbringing, cultural values, and even the choice of a life partner shape who we really are. This understanding becomes more practical when linked to the four personality types: the cheerful sanguine, the assertive choleric, the calm phlegmatic, and the perfectionist melancholic.

Each personality type has its own communication style and approach that needs to be recognised by parents and couples so that family relationships can run more harmoniously.

The Ministry of Population and Family Development/BKKBN invites all Indonesian families to continue strengthening the quality of relationships among family members through warm communication, mutual understanding of character, and cultivating the language of love in daily life.

The “Language of Love in the Family” webinar was held online by the Ministry on Friday (12/6) as part of the series of events commemorating the 33rd National Family Day (Harganas).
