Minister of Immigration and Corrections (Imipas) Agus Andrianto has revealed that President Prabowo Subianto will grant amnesty to prisoners. He stated that the amnesty will be given on Independence Day, 17 August. “The information is that on 17 August there will be a grant of amnesty to prisoners,” Agus Andrianto said during a kickoff event at Nusakambangan Prison, Cilacap, Central Java, on Monday (29/6/2026). Agus then urged inmates to participate well in the rehabilitation process. He noted that assessments by officers would provide inmates with the opportunity to receive amnesty from the President. “On this occasion, I also appeal to those currently undergoing rehabilitation to follow the process and guidance well. Hopefully, based on the officers’ assessment, you will have the chance to receive amnesty from the President this year,” he explained. Agus clarified that the amnesty is intended for inmates under the age of 35. However, those selected must join the Reserve Component (Komcad) before being released. “Hopefully, as I mentioned earlier, the President will grant amnesty in August to prisoners under 35 years of age. But they will not be released directly; they will join Komcad first so they become disciplined,” he said.
