Minister Imipas Reveals Prabowo Will Grant Amnesty to Prisoners on 17 August

The Minister of Immigration and Correctional Affairs, Agus Andrianto, has revealed that President Prabowo Subianto will grant amnesty to correctional inmates. He stated that the amnesty will be granted on the occasion of Indonesia’s Independence Day on 17 August.

“The information is that on 17 August, there will be the granting of amnesty to correctional inmates,” said Agus Andrianto during a kickoff event at the Nusakambangan Prison, Cilacap, Central Java, on Monday (29/06/2026).

Agus subsequently urged inmates to undergo the rehabilitation process diligently. He noted that assessments by officials will determine the opportunities for inmates to receive amnesty from the President.

“On this occasion, I also wish to convey an appeal to those currently undergoing the rehabilitation process: follow the rehabilitation and guidance process well. Hopefully, through the assessments by officials, you will have the opportunity to receive amnesty from the President this year,” he explained.

Agus explained that the amnesty is intended for inmates under the age of 35. However, those selected must participate in the Reserve Component (Komcad) programme before being released.

“As I have mentioned, the President will grant amnesty to correctional inmates under the age of 35 this August. However, they will not be released immediately; they must participate in the Komcad to instil discipline,” he added.
